"Your uncle wasn't comfortable with this new look of yours," Rose said
laughing as she added, "dropped all of the charges and I have two
witnesses, both policeman, that heard him agree to let you go into our
custody. Needs paper work but we've gotten past that. Called Helen and
she's doing that paperwork right now."

"So I can be emancipated," Joey asked thrilled to a state of giddiness.

      "No, no need," Rose said.

"What," Carol asked and added, "why?"

"We're going to become your legal guardians. Should be done by the end of
today or not later than tomorrow. I'm afraid, you're going to have to stay
with us until you're at least eighteen," Rose said.

Joey stood there letting the whole thing sink in as Rose's words swept
over him. There was one serious nagging question he had, but too afraid to
ask and his face changed. Rose saw it and when Rose's face changed Carol
      then noticed.

"You mind hanging out with a couple of women," Rose asked.

"No," Joey said smiling, but the enthusiasm was gone from his face.

"Going to mean you being a little more feminine for a time. We're too old
to change, you're not. At least till we can get use to having a guy living
with us," Rose said sounding stern.

"What if that guy didn't mind being too feminine," Joey said almost in a
      whisper and looking very embarressed.

"Even better! Cheaper besides. I mean we've got all of those clothes
      still," Rose said.

"Cindy would like that," Carol said looking at Joey.

Joey's smile came back, this time broader than before, clearly happier as
he said, "Do you think, wherever Cindy is, Cindy knows?"

"What do you think," Carol asked in a hopeful tone.

"She does," Joey said after thinking for a moment, and before adding, in
an even softer voice, "Actually, I know she does."

      Post Script

It was Helen's fault, that paper work snafu, when Joey began signing the
pages he needed to sign while Rose and Carol signed theirs. Rose had
inadvertently changed Joey's gender to female after filing the necessary
paper work for Joey's transition forgetting, she said, that Joey wasn't
      actually transistioning and was male.

Helen promised to make the changes back again, but it would take a bit she
said apologetically. The changes, those errors actually only meant Joey
would have to remain female to the world for a bit longer. No more than a
few months till she got them through the courts again.

Trouble was, and the reason it would take longer then before, was because
Helen had submitted the doctors recommendations as well. It had
complicated things some. A silly mistake and again she apologized before
leaving Joey, Rose and Carol to themselves that day.

There wasn't much left in the attic by that time, and Joey was already
wearing Cindy's jumpers when he drove in with Carol to work. Of course
Joey only worked a few hours a day with Carol, with the rest spent at home
working on his high school diploma with Rose.

Both were working on Joey's night time incontinence but not too hard since
he was dry during the day. Wearing big girl panties helped with that.
However, Dr. Marcy Stern didn't want either of them pushing Joey too hard
on giving up his baby things at night till she was able to get him past
the memories of losing his parents.

No one saw Rose's smile, nor Joey's as Marcy drove off after saying
that...
