Assuming that at some point this forum will go off line, where will we all wind up?

I am researching what domain server that Betty's is a part of.
With that I can possibly get the overseer of that to transfer the
ownership (Forum Administrator) in my name and ultimately
others to share and keep this beauty alive for a while before it
goes off into the Archieves sunset.
There are only three adminstrators to this forum - Archieves - Betbot and Betty.
The roll of administrator is to run the forum maintaining the membership and
keeping a wary eye out for those who would disrupt the good order of the forum.
Presently there are no moderators which if I am successful in the transfer
I will make a few to regulate the content and subsequently
establish decorum with the thought of creating a beneficiary to
run the forum after I am gone or unable to handle it.
I have two forums I run and have successfully transferred the
dormant ownership to my name - the process is not easy and
as quick - - -
AND then I don't know of the financial aspects of this forum.
If it is freely run or if there is small (large) sum for its operation.
Betty was frequently asking for donations - don't know if that
was for the pets or for the forum operation.
This too is an obstacle to overcome if the price is too much.
Anyway that is were I am at in the research stage.
If Betty's next of kin is reading along - perhaps there was some
paperwork (WILL) filed to govern the continuance of the forum -
i.e. passwords receipts invoices domain parent - - -
Interested in any clues help to make this happen -
or anyone else that is doing similar research.

Thank you so very much for your efforts! This site has been a 'go to' site for me almost daily - and I am so grateful to those who have contributed to it. It would be a tragedy to see it just disappear so if some element of financial support is necessary, I would be more that happy to contribute. Please keep us informed ..

I deleted it because I didn't want to muddy the waters. If you were able to take over the existing site that would obviously be the best option, and I'm sure many of the current members would offer practical support. I was just noting I'd reserved the domain bettyslegacy.net in case someone was able to create a new forum.

First of all, thank you Sandra B. You've written so many stories I love and your most recent masterpiece, Mitch, is so amazing you're giving me fetishes I never knew I had before.
As far as the site, I'm not an expert but I know one and I've asked some questions telling them that it's a hobby site that the owner is no longer with us and what would our options be. And the reponses were "Well, if they didn't do this or they didn't do that, you could probably..."
But the problem is that this site was constantly under attack as Betty let us know. So in order to protect the site, it's almost certain Betty would've taken steps to prevent anyone taking over the site. Short of Betty taking steps in a will or some other shared information, it's very unlikely to be possible.
Which is my long-winded way of saying that I think your plan is likely the one with the most chance of success.

Not wanting to start a flame war, just expressing an opinion, I have been around with Betty's sites since the mid 90's and the newsnet days, I was also a moderator on some of the earlier sites.
Betty was always very possessive and protective of the various renditions of his sites, evidenced by the smooth running of this site even now after 3 months or so of his passing.
I personally don't think Betty would have wanted someone to "take over" these sites & pages in there entirety, rather another site should be created that would honour Betty, these pages and all that they stand for.
Also let us not forget that this thread is actually on the stories site which is only a (relatively) small proportion of all the various pages Betty created, indeed I think Betty would probably have said it should be on the main board and not here. I'm guessing one of the reasons is that various members may have forgot there details and cannot access the main board to logon in order to post.
Now I'm not an I.T. expert, but should one (new website/boards) be created, I can certainly contribute what archived material I have. Hopefully everyone here and over at the main board could join and carry on the great work Betty has done.

So far I have been lead to the SMF (Simple Machines Forum)
and have encountered a great deal of difficulty in navigating that site.

Working around any safe guards spam bots. etc. set up by Betty could indeed be troublesome.
This maybe the best course of action to preserve the stories and allow the entry of new ones as well.
Centering on the topic/subject of stories which in the current state would not be any problem to copy/move to a new forum.
As is the stories are still there for viewing reading copying - some sections are getting the response -

Awaiting further reader member feedback for suggestions -
Trying to do this with minimal cost - yet preserving as much as possible content.

I was not aware of Betty's real name. And I assume most people here did not know it either. I'm not sure you should be posting Betty's personal info.

I have donated, but I was not aware of the name. Perhaps I just dont recall now. Either way, the name has never been published here so perhaps Betty did not want it mentioned here. I just want to be respectful of her privacy
